Equipment Rack/Storage Unit. Wimbledon SW19.

A very unusual project that required a complicated storage unit made in two halves with the lower part housing an equipment rack that acted as a music server for my client’s house and the upper part which housed cookery books on two plains. The music server required a very thick base which was fabricated from 5 pieces of MDF sandwiched together and levelled perfectly to act as level platform for the equipment rack to be screwed to.

Utility Room Storage Units. Wimbledon SW19.

A very interesting build to make two walls of storage units in my client’s utility room in Wimbledon SW19. The units had to match the existing unit in the room which I successfully managed using a beige veneered MDF board I managed to obtain from my timber supplier Warren’s in West Drayton.

Garage Storage Unit. Wimbledon SW19.

Another nice amount of storage created in my client’s garage in Wimbledon SW19. The carcasses and doors were made from white melamine veneered MDF and featured shelving on heavy duty ‘tonk strips’ and doors with attractive ‘Satin Chrome Flush Ring Pull’ knobs.

Radiator Casements. Wimbledon SW19.

Work starts on a straight forward project to make 12 radiator casements for my new client’s home in Wimbledon SW19. They’re fitted through out the property and feature simple grilles affixed in removable panels to allow easy access to the heating controls.

Consumer Unit Storage. Kennington SE11.

The final phase required at my client’s house in Kennington may not look very impressive in comparison with other works that I’ve done over the years but I’ve always been very pleased with the outcome of this particular job due to the chaos of wires and pipes I had by means of a reference point to start with.

A/V/Storage Unit. Kennington SE11.

One of the more complicated projects I’ve taken on mainly because it involved organising all of the cable runs for a 7.1 sound system, two monitors and the necessary power points for said system. The carcases were constructed from Crown Cut Oak veneered MDF with 5mm solid oak lippings on all exposed edges.

Secret Doorway to Master Bedroom Wardrobes. Kennington SE11.

Following on from the previous news item the next stage to the project was to create what looked like a straight forward run of wardrobes but actually incorporated the access for the master bedroom on the floor above.

Master Bedroom Wardrobes with hidden en-suite Bathroom. Kennington SE11.

This job required me to finish off the job starting with intricate templating necessary to complete the wardrobe doors. The central part of the wardrobes formed a division between the bathroom and the bedroom thereby creating a secret bathroom.

Watch Winding House. Paddington W2.

An extremely rare opportunity to really exercise my cabinet making skills with this commission from my client’s in Paddington whose flat I re-furbished in 2004.

Master Bedroom Wardrobes. Wimbledon SW19.

A very nice project to install a set of bespoke wardrobes in my client’s master bedroom in Wimbledon SW19. Working to drawings prepared by my client’s architect the build took a relatively short time to install, it featured pull down ‘wardrobe lifts’, drawers suspended on ‘Blumotion’ soft close runners and flush doors on 170 degree Blum hinges.

T.V Storage Unit. Wimbledon SW19

Work starts on a build for a new client in Wimbledon SW19. Working in conjunction with his architect who designed the T.V unit the job progressed very smoothly. It incorporated a push/pull ventilation system at the top the unit hidden behind a scribing fillet, highly detailed micro rebating on all the leading edges of shelving/carcases + shelving on multi-adjustable tonk strips.

The Chapel. Camberwell SE5.

Probably one of the most enjoyable works I’ve ever done was to create this chapel in the annex of my client’s kitchen on the lower floor of the building. I replicated the figures on the front of the alter from those on the cover of the bible and a secret door was installed allowing access to the coal bunkers/cellars beyond.

Master Bedroom Bathroom. Camberwell SE5.

Another very large project to design and install my client’s master bedroom bathroom suite. Yet another challenging build that required overcoming the hurdle of how to install the cast iron bath which weighed over a quarter of a tonne!

The Ballroom. Camberwell SE5.

I maintain this is one of the most impressive rooms I’ve had the privilege to work on. I was involved every aspect of the design of this room including: a full shutter service, design and installation of the panelling, radiator casements and skirting boards, marking out and machining of the large mouldings prior to being affixed to the ceiling using 15” rods + finally the fabrication of 5 highly detailed occasional tables.

Master Bedroom Break Fronted Wardrobes. Camberwell SE5.

Another challenging build starts, as I progressed up the client’s property it becomes more difficult logistically to physically deliver the tool’s and sheet materials necessary to start the works, this was particularly apparent with this stage of the job.

First Floor Guest Bedroom and Bathroom. Camberwell SE5.

This part of the project required me to re-cycle the existing wardrobes in the room, replacing the original frontage with new doors and adding the fluted column detailing. The bathroom required over-laying the walls with sheets of moisture resistant MDF allowing the fitting of the decorative mouldings.

Hallway Radiator Casements and retro fitting of Panel Mouldings and Dado rails throughout all 4 floors. Camberwell SE5.

Another very large part of the project which presented a number of challenges the main one being the difficulty in securing a fixing to the very old walls. I ended up clamping a lot of the mouldings to the walls relying on strong adhesives to attain a solid anchor.

Work starts at on a large Grade A listed property in Camberwell. The Library, Camberwell SE5.

The start to this job was probably the most daunting I’d taken on. From the chaos of the first day I managed to work out a plan as to how to tackle the installation of shelving units for my client’s study/library.

Final phase of works at clients flat, Kitchen Storage Unit, Hallway Shelving Unit and Bedside Tables, Paddington W2.

Work starts on the last stage of works at Paddington with a very nice kitchen storage unit which cleverly housed my clients trays + had storage drawers for keys etc, this time I polished the unit with shellac and Briwax.

Continued works at clients property, Master Bedroom Wardrobes, Paddington W2

Work starts on the Master bedroom furniture, another job made very difficult due to the complex series of angles in the room. Again this necessitated marking the job out full-scale in my workshop and cross referencing from my rods to enable me to start building the carcases.

Testimonials

"Nicholas Jones is a talented and experienced craftsman who made a substantial and varied amount of bespoke cabinetry for us when we recently moved into a newly built flat.

The major items he made for us were a wall mounted display unit with individual compartments that were each illuminated by dimmable LED lights, a floor standing unit with a retractable housing for the television, storage and built in LED lighting, two bedside tables and two mirrored bathroom cabinets and a vanity unit.  He also built a rack to display patchwork quilts, an elegant frame for a mirror and installed lighting in the glass fronted top of a secretaire.

We enjoyed participating with him in the design of these objects and found him an excellent communicator and a joy to work with. The standard of finish of all his work is outstanding and he is ingenious in finding solutions to practical problems of design and execution.

We are delighted with his work and unreservedly recommend Nicholas to anybody who wants quality, imaginative bespoke cabinetry."
